High-Tech VISA Card Uses Integrated Display, Buttons to Thwart Thieves

To thwart credit card thieves, users of VISA’s latest offering “can enter their PIN into the card itself and have a security code generated on the fly.” Video after the break.

The method can stop thieves in two ways. Those who copy down your credit card information will find that your account number and expiration date is not enough to place an order. And those who actually steal your physical card will find that they still don’t know your pin.

Gesture Control

Mgestk Technologies unveils a new gesture control system that “makes use of nothing more than an ‘affordable 3D camera’ and some custom software to capture even small hand gestures.” Video after the break.

What’s more, while Mgestyk already has a waiting list going, they aren’t making any promises about an actual release date just yet, or a price for that matter, with them only saying that it’ll be “in the range of a high-end webcam.”

Second Light

Microsoft Second Light takes the Surface technology a bit further by adding “the ability to project images into the air thanks to a liquid crystal screen timed to be transparent on alternate frames, enabling a projector below to beam an image right through it.” Video after the break.

Your eye doesn’t notice unless you hold something opaque up to scatter the light (like tracing paper, for instance), meaning the device can show a picture of the night sky on the surface while highlighting the constellations on paper.

Interactive Mirror

Unfortunately, this interactive mirror “seems to lack multi-touch but offers some interesting ideas, like showing how a custom T-shirt would look if you were wearing it.” Video after the break.

Now, with a few tweaks, he’s turned that projector around and made a two-way mirror into a sort of digital portal. “Interactive Mirror” uses the same basic mouse emulation as LaserGames.
