New MacBook Air

Upgrades to the new MacBook Air include: a “new mini DisplayPort plug to replace that totally oddball microDVI plug and integrated graphics (NVIDIA 9400M).” More pics after the jump.

Shocking, we know. Booting is a snap (25 seconds in informal testing) with that new 128GB SSD, the computer runs cool and core-shut-down-free, can handle full HD video, and outputs to external monitors without a problem.

VIDEO: MacBook Air Gets New Airport Screening Procedure

Yes, due to the MacBook Air’s SSD drive, “it actually does look ‘very different’ than 99 percent of the notebooks they’re [TSA] used to seeing under the scanner.” Video after the break.

The culprit? Its solid state drive. Which means any notebook with a SSD could’ve gotten you busted by the Feds. Helpfully, they’ve since distributed photos of what SSD notebooks look like to security personnel

Lenovo decided to take a jab at Apple’s MacBook Air in their newest ad campaign, touting its 2.9-pound ThinkPad X300 as the “Art of Thin”. Video after the break.

Pencil thin laptop? Check. Floating with drop shadow? Check. Catch phrase in Helvetica Light? You bet. “Thinnovation” may have become “The art of thin,” but there’s no mistaking the implication of this new Lenovo web ad for the ThinkPad X300

PICTURES: MacBook Air Dissected

IFixit recently got their hands on Apple’s MacBook Air and decided to sneak a peek under its shell.

They also found the new multi-touch trackpad using the same control chip as the iPod touch and iPhone — the Broadcom BCM5974. That leaves Apple plenty of room to grow the gesture options via software updates. Want to remove the battery? Go ahead, 19 screw removals will get the job done

Gadget Lab’s Rob Beschizza has made himself a little piss-take of the MacBook Air. Curved corners—that’s an Ives-esque attention to detail you’ve got there— and a killer punchline

PICTURE: MacBook AirCraft

If the MacBook Air were to include a built-in Super Drive, floppy drive, iPod Shuffle, 3 USB ports, Ethernet, and Firewire 400/800 ports, this is what it might look like.

The Macbook Air sure is a fine piece of Cupertino craftsmanship, but the lack of useful input ports is a complete downer on the slinky sexy soiree. Fret not, Flickr user Nybras.Rodrigo has conjured up a fantastic solution

PICTURES: Suitcase PC - The Anti-MacBook Air

An electronic musician from Uruguay converted a “retro-styled pilot suitcase” into a fully-functional PC, spending just $600. It comes complete with AMD 3200 processor, 1GB of memory, 120GB SATA HDD, and 15-inch Viewsonic LCD.

He did it for a simple reason: not enough money to buy a laptop. He needed something truly portable to take to his music gigs and a desktop didn’t cut it. So he designed the case and put every component needed inside

PICTURES: MacBook Air Unboxed

Press at MacWorld 2008 managed to get their hands on a factory sealed, Japanese MacBook Air and compared it to the Sony TZ.

Not only that, but they were allowed to compare it to another thin laptop, a Sony VAIO. Obviously, they allowed it because this particular model of VAIO is thick enough to make the MacBook Air look as thin as paper

PICTURE: Instances Where Apple’s MacBook Air Could Save the Day

The guys over at Joyoftech have created an interesting comic strip showing “just a few instances where having the world’s thinnest notebook could save the day” — aka MacBook Air.

From Joyoftech, you may have thought that the Macbook Air was just some silly contraption without any practical application
